Yesterday I saw Jennifer Williams’s post on the Facebook group Inkle Weaving about her challenge “Dailybandpractice“. Her motivation is that weaving is very important to her, but she can never find time for it.
It was 6 AM when I saw this post and I browsed to her website to read more of this challenge. I was not completely awake yet, because I read from her blog that she would like it if other weavers would follow. And so I thought about that all day: am I going to take on this challenge? Now, a day later and while writing this blog, I read her blog again and I see that she would like it if people want to follow her progress …. That is subtly different, but my decision had already been made : I will participate in the Dailybandpractice!
And participation will be a real challenge. Because how often have I decided to take a walk for half an hour a day, iron three items of clothing daily, eat two pieces of fruit ….. I always start enthusiastically and after 4 days I decide to skip one day and after one week I quit…
Anyway, I’m going to give it a try again. Not to weave for 15 minutes a day, because I already do (and a lot longer too). But to spend 15 minutes working on my stash of unfinished projects. My (20!) inkle looms are all warped and there is also a nice basket of hidden UFOs. That damned squirrel band should be finished (the squirrels are grinning at me maliciously), but bands that I really like should also come to an end.
And fifteen minutes a day should work. Right?
20 Inkle looms! Are they all the same brand? If not, what do you have, and do you have preferences (length, tension adjustment rod/ paddle, etc)? I just ordered my 2nd – another Schacht inkle. I had a Windhaven & sold it. But I also have two Chuck Jones tablet looms, 2 box tape looms, and one antique tape loom. Have you done a post on your looms? I’d love to see them.
I love the Ashford Inkle loom and inklette! And there was someone in The Hague making inkle looms and they are really fantastic. Unfortunately, he doesn’t make them anymore…. Good idea to make a post about my looms!
